Constraints on the available bandwidth and channel noise distortion are two important problems in today's communication.Reliable transmission of speech over noisy communication channels has been a hotspot of relevant research. In this paper,we provide a basis for reliable transmission of speech over noisy communication channels by quantifying the amount of residual redundancy inherent in the CELP line spectral pair(LSP) parameters.First and second-order Markov chains are introduced to model the LSP correlation within a speech frame and between frames, respectively.A large training sequence from the TIMIT speech database is used in conjunction with these models to quantify the redundancy found within the LSP's.
