Cross-layer On-board Buffer Management Strategy in Broadband Satellite ATM Communication Systerm

In order to improve the utilization of on-board buffer resources in broadband satellite systerm with on-board ATM(asynchronous transfer mode) switching,a cross-layer on-board buffer management strategy,EPED(erroneous packet early drop),which concerns non-real-time data services,was suggested.The strategy discards erroneous cells caused by satellite channel and the other cells that belong to the same protocol data unit.The simulation results showthat ECTD would opti-mize buffermanagement and improve goodput.And the larger the cell error ratio and the PDU length,the greater the increment of goodput.
