Comparison and Determination of the Subjects of English and Chinese Sentences

Through the analysis of the characteristics and determination of subjects in English and Chinese sentences,this paper,based on Chinese parataxis and topic-prominent nature,puts forward that it is more practical and reasonable to determine the subject in Chinese sentences by analyzing the topic-comment relationship instead of the traditional agent-object relationship.This analysis is a sound combination of pragmatics and syntax and is of benefit to subject determination in teaching of Chinese as a foreign language and in Chinese-English translation.
