The principle, characteristics of different methods and indeterminate factors of baseline correction(BC) for near-fault strong motion records are analyzed using the near-fault records of Wenchuan earthquake. The general procedure for BC is put forward according to the principles, and the BC for records is conducted through choosing different groups of time points in the rational scope of time dividing points. The ground motion parameters and the response spectra of different corrected records are comparatively analyzed. The results show that the accurate determinate results could not be obtained by using current methods, and in spite of the principles for BC are satisfied, different results may also be obtained. However, through the rational BC,there are small effects on the analyzed results of the ground motion parameters related to acceleration, velocity and the response spectrum.
