Simulating of poorly-behaved growth of bacteria with computer

Based on the equation of X'_(n+1)=rX'_(n)(1-X'_(n)), which was delivered by R.May, the study on concentration variety of fermentation of Brevibacterium acetylicum was carried out. We used two parameters r_(1) and r_(2) to control the curve. r_(1) and r_(2) was used to determine whether the system shows obvious characteristics of chaos. The results showed that r_(1) and r_(2) of experimental curves are about 3.7. At this time, experimental curves and theoretic curves fit well. r_(1) and r_(2) are a little larger than 3.55 which determines whether the curve shows chaos, So the study proved that chaos exists in the bacteria fermentation. Thus, it is hard to accurately control the fermentation of Brevibacterium acetylicum with current methods.
