Objective To investigate B type natriuretic peptide (BNP) cut-off point levels in diagnosing cardiac and non-cardiac dyspnea. Methods BNP levels of 351 patients with acute dyspnea were measured by Triage CHF/AMI analyzer made by American Biosite Company. Results At BNP level less than 60 ng/L,non-cardiac dyspnea could generally be diagnosed; At BNP level between 100 ng/L and 500 ng/L,cardiac dyspnea should be considered; At BNP level more than 500 ng/L,cardiac dyspnea could be diagnosed in general condition. Conclusion BNP level is an effective way to identify cardiac and non-cardiac dyspnea.
