Research on object-oriented modeling of transient flow and application to the diversion system of hydropower station

Sizhen Liang · Journal of Hydroelectric Engineering · 2010

Model test and numerical simulation at present are the major techniques for the study of transient flows in the penstock system of a hydropower station. The traditional simulation is based on the method of characteristics and structured programming. This paper presents a simulation method that adopts the technique of object-oriented programming,i.e.to code the modules for flows in reservoir, penstock, surge chamber and turbine etc.first, and then to integrate these modules into an interactive model by the enclosing technique. With this model, the calculations of water level fluctuations in the surge chamber of a hydropower diversion system agree with the experiemntal results with an error less than 3%.This new model of high accuracy and efficiency is superior to the traditional method.
