Cognitive Radio Networks and its Spectrum Management Technologies

Shang Chong-weic · Journal of Naval Aeronautical and Astronautical University · 2009

Cognitive radio networks will provide high bandwidth to mobile users via heterogeneous wireless architectures and dynamic spectrum access techniques. Spectrum management functions can address challenges for the realization of this new network paradigm. To provide a better understanding of CR networks, it presented recent developments and open research issues in spectrum management in CR networks. First, a brief overview of cognitive radio and the CR network architecture was provided. Then four main challenges of spectrum management, such as spectrum sensing, spectrum decision, spectrum sharing, and spectrum mobility, were discussed.
