Quantitative determination of simvastatin capsules by first derivative spectrophotometry

OBJECTIVE To improve an assay for the quantitative determination of simvastatin capsules.METHODS First derivative spectophotometry was used.RESULTS There was absorption peak and trough of simvastation at 224.0 nm and 250.0 nm,respectively,but no absorption for excipients over 260.0～247.0 nm.A linear correlation was obtained over the range of 4.0～12.0 μg·ml -1 of simvastatin.CONCLUSION The method can replace the HPLC method in the quantitative determination of simvastatin capsules.
