Energy efficiency is a very critical consideration in the design of sensor networks which typically have fairly low node battery life. This raises the need for providing sleep cycles for the radios in the sensor nodes. This paper proposes an Energy-Ef-ficient Adaptive(EEA) routing protocol based on SRM(Scalable Reliable Multicast) inhibition mechanism, which dynamically ad-just the frequency to inhibit unnecessary data transmissions, and sleep according to certain rules to save node's energy. Moreover,EEA can achieve the energy balance to certain extent by introducing the parameter of remaining energy to choose sending nodes. The experimental results show that EEA requires less transmissions and achieve longer network lifetime, compared with Flooding and SPIN protocols.
