A Revised Wireless Local Area Network Media Access Control Mechanism with Priority

In this paper, we discuss the channel distributed mechanism of IEEE 802.11 MAC and put forward a new MAC mechanism with differentiation named RDCF/P. The new mechanism introduces the differentiation of priority and sets different maximal transmission time according to different priority. In the mechanism, the high priority station or flow not only gains the long service time but also preferentially gets the usufruct of channel. We also introduce the backoff threshold in the mechanism. RDCF/P mechanism reduces the channel conflict and idle latency time. Theoretical analysis and analog simulation show that the new mechanism has good QOS performance.
