Reflections on the Researches into Scalar Implicature

The paper first presents a general survey on the domestic researches done on the scalar implicature.Then by careful analysis,the paper argues that the choice of a stronger item on a linguistic scale means the negation of the weaker item(s) and the negation of the weaker items on the scale constitutes the scalar implicature of choosing a stronger item.Finally,it is pointed out that if the study on scalar implicature could be placed in cognitive environment,it would contribute to the better understanding of scalar implicature.
