Effects of Categorical Information on Preview Search at Isoluminance

Lei Xue-jun · Journal of Zhanjiang Normal College · 2006

The effect of categorical relationship between old and new objects on preview search at isoluminance was studied. The categorical stimuli were letters and numbers.Subjects' task was to detect a target letter(H) or number(6).The experimental method was a preview search paradigm. The results showed that: a) When old objects were numbers and the target was an H,there was perfect preview effect(Experiment 1);b) When old objects were letters and the target was a 6, there was part preview effect(Experiment 2).The results suggest that categorical information can influence preview search even at isoluminance and there be an asymmetry in categorical preview effect.
