A Fuzzy Decision System for Expressway Ground Improvement Based on a MATLAB-FIS Toolbox

With the rapid development of expressways in China, ground improvement is getting more and more important. Decisions for ground improvement usually rely on the experience of experts. This paper discusses the decision making process of the ground improvement in expressway construction and describes the method to set up a ground improvement decision system based on a MATLAB-FIS toolbox. The structure of this system is detailed. Membership functions of the inputs and outputs are constructed by using membership function editors, and inference rules are worked out through rule editors. Taking the project of the ground improvement of the Shujiahang expressway as an example, a case study is performed and its results are satisfactory.
