EDA-MAC:an Event Driven Application MAC for Wireless Sensor Networks

Yongzhao Zhan · Journal of Chinese Computer Systems · 2010

MAC protocol is widely studied in the field of wireless sensor network(WSN);however, the existing MAC protocol designed for the concrete application is less.Aim on the ramp corner traffic control system based on WSN,an event driven application MAC(EDA-MAC) is proposed and evaluated. In this protocol,a reported event with the highest priority is selected as a standard to prevent lower priority event from to report by a content time slot assignment algorithm which can effectively reduce the collisions, confirm integrity and real time of the data transmission.Furthermore,a time slot dynamic adjustment algorithm is proposed to adjust the time slot number among content free period and inactive period, which can reduce the idle listening period, prolong the sleep period, and effectively reduce energy consumption. The experiment result has proved that the EDA-MAC outperforms other MAC protocols,it supports prioritized event transmitted, and it has a good real-time and high energy efficiency performance. The protocol is applicable to the ramp corner traffic system based on WSN.
