Discovery and Simulation of an Enhanced Bluetooth Device

Bluetooth relies on frequency hopping mechanism, implying that devices are not able to establish connection unless they have previously discovered each neighbour device by synchronizing their frequency hopping patterns. The process of Device Discovery is slowed down by non-cooperating Bluetooth devices which are not invited to cooperate in the same network but involved in the Device Discovery process. This paper provides an insight on Device Discovery and proposes an enhanced approach to distinguish non-cooperating devices before they are discovered by PAN-ID carried in the CoD field, which could speedup the process of Device Discovery. The simulation, comparing the original and the proposed scheme, presents the benefits of the new approach.
