Crossbar is a key component of the high-performance exchange switch used in multicomputer interconnection networks or routers. In this paper, the design and implementation of a high-speed crossbar based on Xilinx Virtex-II FPGA is presented, and this crossbar includes the input channels, the arbiter and the crossbar. This paper focuses on the design and implementation of the crossbar arbiter.A fair and efficient arbiter is very important for maximizing network performance, and it is the critical path that limits the system clock. An improved wavefront arbiter is put forward, which runs well at 135MHz,and proves to be efficient in practice.
