Discussion on active management system of port structures

In contrast with the traditional structural management system with emphasis of post-damage stage,the paper proposes a management system for monitoring and assessing structural performances(such as deformation and displacement)with the aid of embedded transducers at the critical locations of the structures during construction and operation.The active management system that can detect and locate progressive deterioration in structures or abrupt damages can not only dramatically reduce the maintenance cost,but also ensure the safety and serviceability of the structures.
