Multidimensional Data Structures

Jie Lin · Journal of Shanghai Institute of Technology · 2005

Several multidimensional data structures in database management systems and geographic information systims are introduced. There are various data structures that represent the above concept of hierarchical decomposition of space. K-d trees, point quad trees, MX-quad trees, R-trees are also introduced. Each data structure decomposes space in different ways with concomitant advantages and disabvantages.
