A new algorithm for iris image preprocessing

Based on the circular integrodifferential operators and an iterative searching algorithm,a fast and accurate iris localization method was presented.Iris normalization is based on a new algorithm that combines the centers of the pupil and iris to one point.This normalization algorithm can correct the errors caused by the fact that the inner and outer circles do not share the same center.Considering the practical characteristic of iris images,an improved local histogram equalization was used for image enhancement.Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has an encouraging performance.It takes no more than 0.4 s to complete the whole iris preprocessing,which can meet the requirement of real-time iris recognition.
