A Rate Adaptation Technology based on TCP Throughput for Ad Hoc Network

The current IEEE 802.11 standard supports multi-rate transmission at the physical layer,but there are not corresponding rate adaptive methods at the MAC layer.For the deficiencies of current adaptive rate control method for Ad Hoc Network and the drastical deterioration of TCP performance under the wireless communication environment,this paper proposes an improved rate adaptive protocol of MAC layer,which is simple in implementation and attempts to satisfy the traditional standard,and based on the improved the TCP throughput,adapts to the rapidly changing wireless channel,and achieves sub-rate adaptive packet transmission.Simulation results show that the improved protocol has better throughput than RBAR.
