An Efficient Architecrture for H.264 Decoder Based on SOC Platform

Zhenghui Lin · Journal of Optoelectronics·laser · 2006

An efficient architecture for H.264 decoder is presented based on SOC platformto support flexible macroblock ordering(FMO) and arbitrary slice ordering(ASO) bitstream.By searching the slice containing the current macroblock in bitstream and switching slices correctly, the problem that the macroblock address in the bitstream is different from the raster scan order of deblocking is solved. It enables macroblock-level decoding and deblocking pipeline further. In hardware design,a properly sized buffer cache is arranged to store the temporary data used in deblocking, and dual parallel bus architecture is used to satisfy the requirement of the high data bandwidth.Implementation results show that the design achieves real-time decoding of 1080HD(1920×1088@30 fps) at a system clock of 166 MHz.
