Image scrambling algorithm based on bit-exclusive-or between consecutive pixel values

Aiming at the safe problem of image transmission, this paper presents a bit-exclusive-or based image scrambling algorithm. The algorithm does a bit-exclusive-or operation on each pixel with its prior one first. And then the bits of each pixel value are exchanged across;thereby the effect of image scrambling is improved again.Experimental results show that compared with some existing algorithms such as the Arnold scrambling, the method not only provides with a scrambled image whose histogram has been changed obviously, but also the scrambled image looks more like Gaussian white noise, which is expected when being applied into the image encryption transmission or the preprocessing of secret images in digital watermarking.
