Cooperative diversity technique has been widely discussed as a way to form virtual arrays without using multiple antennas.Traditional cooperative diversity doesn't fully apply the channel resources because the relays forward the signal which comes from the source to the destination every time regardless of the channel conditions. However, the IR(incremental relaying) cooperative diversity use the cooperative links only when the channel condition of direct link is bad. Thus,it can save the channel resources. In this paper, the performance of IR cooperative diversity with different modulations and different thresholds over independent non-identical Rayleigh fading channels are studied. The relay use AF(amplify-and-forward) method to achieve spatial diversity. For every kind of modulation, mathematical equation for bit error rate and the signal-to-noise(SNR) has been constructed.Besides, this paper discusses the effect of threshold to the IR cooperative diversity.
