THE DYNAMIC COMPRESSION OF TEMPORAL GIS DATA

Wang Yan-bo · Chinese Journal of Engineering Geophysics · 2005

Temporal GIS is a new research field of GIS, and still in the stages of theory and model study. In this paper, we study temporal GIS models. The Temporal GIS stores a mass of data, so it’s certain that the data will occupy vast storage room. This paper expresses a new method to deal with Temporal GIS data. This method uses the spatio-temporal data model based on the events to increase the efficiency of the data storage with the skill which reduces the repetitive storage of data, and also this paper introduces the concept of base state and middle state. Furthermore it describes the application of this method in data compressing and maintenance. Finally, it puts forward the author’s opinions on the selection of temporal GIS models.
