Study on the Language Features of NBA Impromptu Commentary

Employing the method of literature review,the method of language transcription and statistics by observing videos,this paper has analyzed seven games of the 2010 NBA(National Basketball Association) Finals' impromptu commentary.The results show that as a kind of conversational language,NBA impromptu commentary has the following features: 1) The commentary language is very flexible,vivid and sportive,there can be many different terms and expressions to describe a very same technique or terms of laws in many different aspects;2) It is very emotional and oral,usually non-complete sentences,using interjections frequently;3) Its commentary is very improvisational and abundant,any information related to the game will do;4) It shows very high level of specialty as to the use of basketball term,its covering rate and the use of terms has obvious tendency: terms of box score,laws and regulations and terms about techniques and tactics are its core,and the commentary language will change according to the change of video screens and other information related to the match as supplement to the commentary content.Aiming at improving domestic basketball commentary,this paper has put forward some suggestions and references accordingly,hoping to improve its own commentary level.
