On wh-words introducing nominal clauses in technical English

Technical English has its own linguistic characteristics that make it a special field of English.This paper is to analyze the syntactic functions of wh-words in technical English which are represented by the corpus T4.In this paper, wh-words are dealt with in different clauses with the focus on nominal clauses.Through the analysis of distribution frequency of wh-words in T4,we arrive at the conclusion that some wh-words occur more frequently in some types of clauses while some other wh-words occur less frequently.From the results of chi-square tests,the author comes to the conclusion that the distributions of some wh-words such as what in nominal clauses in T4 are significantly different from those in the other corpora involved while some other wh-words show similar distribution in different corpora.
