An Algorithm for Depth Interpolation of Surfaces Based on Contours

Wang Zeng-fu · Acta Simulata Systematica Sinica · 2001

: An algorithm for depth interpolation of surfaces based on contours is presented in this paper. The key ideas of the algorithm are a set of rules induced from the relationship between depth perception and surface completion. The algorithm consists of two parts: a heuristic enclosed contour searching algorithm and a rule based depth fill-in algorithm. The results of simulation show that the algorithm is an effective algorithm. It can successfully solve the problem of connecting segments of contours in the image, and gives a dense depth map, which is consistent with the real situation.
