Investigation on patients with Keshan disease in Yunnan in 2014

Objective To master outcome and situation distribution of cases with Keshan disease in Yunnan Province in2014. Methods The registered cases were followed up according to the report on Keshan disease in Yunnan, 2012. The present patients were performed physical examination and confirmed the original diagnosis according to Keshan Disease Diagnosis(WS/T 210-2011). Results There were 963 historical cases with Keshan disease in Yunnan in 2014, including 229 of the latent and 734 of the chronic. Out of them, there were 240 cases of death and 297 cases lost, with the average age of patients of 43.8 ± 16.2 year-old. Among the 429 present cases, 341 cases were reviewed and confirmed diagnosis, including34.0% of the latent and 66.0% of the chronic. The highest proportion was in 3-14 age group(22.4%) of the latent cases and in the 35-44 age group(29.8%) of the chronic cases. Three hundred and sixty-five present patients took clinical ECG examination, and 231 cases showed abnormalities, with abnormal rate of 63.3%. Two hundred and fifty-four patients were performed X-ray examination, there were 150 cases appearing cardiac enlargement, with detection rate of 59.1%. One hundred and twenty-seven cases accepted echocardiography with abnormal rate of 29.6%. ECG changes were mainly complete right bundle branch block and sinus bradycardia, accounted for 13.9% and 13.4%, respectively. Conclusions Presently, the situation of Keshan disease is stable in Yunnan Province, with the main clinical types of chronic cases. It is hazardous to young people. The key to the disease prevention should be focused on youth population and therapy of chronic cases.
