Conceptual Integration Network and Meaning Construction of News Cartoons

This paper initially has a brief review of basic concepts and ideas in Conceptual Integration Theory proposed by Fauconnier and Tunner,and then takes three cartoons from the net news as examples,attempting to analyze the process of meaning construction of news cartoons in Conceptual Integration Network.The analysis demonstrates that Conceptual Integration Theory is full of powerful cognitive force.It could provide a new theoretical viewpoint for the meaning construction,innovation and comprehension in news cartoons with its remarkable feature of constructing non-traditional novel meaning on-line for local purposes of thought and action.
