On Text Comprehension of Rejoinder Ellipsis from the View of Schema Theory

Rejoinder ellipsis is a common linguistic phenomenon.How to understand rejoinder ellipsis effec-tively is always one of the difficult problems in the study of text linguistics.Based on schema theory,the thesis mainly studies the process of text comprehension on the rejoinder ellipsis different from that of traditional ones after several forms of rejoinder ellipsis are analyzed.The main textual characteristic of that ellipsis is the omis-sion of cohesive tie,in other words,the items that are presupposed or left out cannot be recovered in text.Fur-thermore,it is pointed out that situation schema and cultural schema play an important role in textual cohesion and comprehension of rejoinder ellipsis.
