Robust Internet Video Streaming Using MPEG-4 FGS Video Coding

Robust video streaming using MPEG-4 fine granular scalability video coding method over Internet with packet-losses is investigated.A brief review of FGS video coding method is given with focus on its robustness in packet-loss environment and some comparison is carried out between FGS and MPEG-4 non-scalable video coding method. Based on the fine granular scalability (FGS), an unequal packet-loss protection strategy is proposed to enhance robustness of FGS in video streaming over packet-loss Internet. Simulation results demonstrate that when using unequal packet loss protection, FGS has a better performance than MPEG-4 non-scalable video coding method in video streaming over packet-loss Internet.
