Miao Yu · Journal of Nanjing University of Science and Technology · 2011
In this research, ambiguous V+N1+de+N2 phrases are examined in terms of the roles of prosodic features in disambiguation through perceptions and acoustic experiments. Results show that disambiguation can be achieved through prosodic features.Relevant acoustic parameters include length of breaks before and after, verb pronunciation lengths,as well as verb basebands.Among them, variations of breaks before and after correspond to the syntactic function of V+N1+de+N2,which can not only disambiguate the two potential meanings, but also match the semantic orientation of this particular phrase, thus making it the most important disambiguating prosodic clue.Prosodic information is closely related to syntactic and semantic components.
