A Preliminary Exploration of the Modification of Chinese Bamboo Flute

Western music was introduced to China on a large scale in the early 20th century.Since then,the disadvantages of the traditional bamboo flute in such aspects as semitones,modulation,range,and tone have emerged.The modification of traditional bamboo flutes originated from the musicians of the Datong Music Association in an attempt to make them fit for western music.Since then,many non-traditional New Flutes have been invented.With an exploration of the modified bamboo flutes and a comparison of the traditional flutes with the modified ones,this article concludes that the keyless flute with ten holes has obvious advantages over other modified flutes and it has potential for application.
