An Empirical Investigation of Anaphora Resolution Algorithm in Discourse Quotations

Some reference resolution studies omit anaphoric forms in quotations.In the givenness hierachy framework,this paper focuses on the anaphora resolution algorithm of non-personal pronoun it in Chinese newspaper quotations based on Watters and Gundel's givenness hierachy coding protocol criteria.The study finds that the anaphora resolution of pronoun it in Chinese newspaper quotations is more complicated than that in English in terms of non-referential anaphora and indeterminable antecedent.The coding protocol criteria,in some way,is not applicable to the anaphora resolution in Chinese quotations.
