Image enhancement method to eliminate illumination influence on runway area on ship

Illumination can have a significant impact on the appearance of ships' surfaces,which may lead the incompleteness or even failure in the extraction of the runway. For the above reason,an image processing method for enhancing images of the runway and eliminating illumination influence is proposed. At first,the gray mean value of the image is recovered to the normal level. Then,the dynamic range and contrast of the image are increased with a linear gradation transformation algorithm,and the repeated iteration are made for these two steps according to the feedback of the improved image quality to achieve better results. The simulation results show that the algorithm performs well under variable conditions of illumination,and the purpose of enhancing the runway lines is reached.
