The meanings of words represent things,phenomena,properties or features and thus constitute concepts.It is words that compose utterances and enter into syntactic structures.Syntax is dependent upon the combination of words.They occupy grammatical slots and play semantic roles in a sentence.A word also selects its appropriate companions.It is the relationship between words and their habitual company that shapes their meanings and constitutes the concepts they represent.
