An Improved Page Replacement Algorithm Supporting Realtime Processes Based on Objrmap

Wan Ming-cheng · Computer Engineering and Science · 2007

This paper introduces the new technology of Linux 2.6,which is called object-based reverse mapping,Objrmap for short. After discussing the possibility to implement the page replacement policy to support real-time processes,an improved page replacement algorithm supporting real-time processes based on Objrmap is proposed. The improved algorithm enhances notably the real-time property of Linux with less extra time and space overhead. The improvement does not affect the high concurrency level of the operating system and hinder inter-process memory sharing neither.Experiments show that the times of page fault under the new algorithm is rather less than the original one.
