A new compression algorithm for improving SIP session delay in IMS

Zifu Fan · Journal of Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications · 2007

SIP is used in IMS(IP multimedia subsystems) to perform multimedia session setup and maintenance. However,SIP is text-based and has hundreds of bytes to transfer between session setup which increase the time of setting up a call greatly. In order to reduce the call setup delay,it is necessary to compress SIP.A new algorithm called LZSS-HUFFMAN to compress SIP is proposed, which is the combination of the LZSS algorithm and HUFFMAN.It proves that the new algorithm has better compression efficiency, and reduces the transmission delay and session setup delay greatly.
