Design and Analysis of Source Component in Word Oriented Stream Cipher

After analyzing the source components of word oriented stream cipher, we classify them into four categories according to different styles and examine the characteristic of each with discussing their security and implementation issues. The essential demand and rules for the design of source component are briefly discussed and three special σ -LFSRs are presented, which not only have well cryptographic properties but also have high software efficiency. In addition, the comparisons with that of SNOW are given. Our results show the presented three types of σ-LFSRs can be used as source component in modern word oriented stream cipher.
