Adaptive Optimization of Half-rate Based on Periodic Traffic Model Analysis

Half-rate is usually applied as a method to improve network capacity in GSM. However, half-rate would influence the user communication quality. According to the rule of the mobile user, fluctuation characteristic of the cell traffic is presented in this paper. Through performing statistic analysis, the distribution of statistic cell is achieved. And by using the distribution of statistic cell, half-rate is adopted to reasonably solve the periodic traffic fluctuation while to balance the inconsistency between periodic fluctuation capacity and voice quality. Adaptive technology is used to solve the burst traffic problem, while half-rate is applied properly to improve the network capacity and reduce the influence on voice quality.
