Cumulant-based ESPRIT-like blind beamforming

A blind beamforming algorithm for direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation for non-Gaussian signal sources is discussed, where additive noise is colored (spatially correlated) Gaussian with unknown second-order statistics. The ESPRIT DOA estimation problem in a doublet model can be reformulated using the fourth-order cumulant matrices instead of autocorrelation matrices. By doing so, the additive colored Gau-ssian noise can be suppressed. Therefore knowledge of the noise cross-correlation matrix becomes unnecessary. In the case of colored Gaussian additive noise with unknown spatial correlation matrix, several simulations are performed to compare the performance of cumulant-based ESPRIT algorithm with its equivalent second-order statistics-based version.
