The Study of the Pragmatic Function on Ironic Utterance

Ironic utterance is one of essential parts of language.Based on four linguistic principles as meaning,context,indirect speech acts and function grammar,this paper analyzes the pragmatic function of ironic utterance through some concrete instances to find out it indicates irony,expectation and criticism etc.
