Preparation of tranilast cataplasm and determination of drug release

Objective:To prepare tranilast cataplasm and to study its in vitro release characteristics.Methods: The cataplasm was prepared with a high molecular water-soluble material to investigate adjutant materials which influence the external appearance.Its in vitro release rate was measured and the transdermal release properties was also evaluated.Results: The best prescription of cataplasm is: tranilast 0.5 g,PVA 6 g,high molecular weight water-soluble material 25 g,glycerin 5 g,azone 5 g,propylene glycol 5 g,with water added to 150 g.The release rate of drug in four days is more than 80%.Conclusions: The tranilast cataplasm is well qualified without skin irritation,which is a safe and effective transdermal delivery system.
