Tenses in English Abstracts of Informatics Research Papers

In the course of international academic exchange,English abstracts are an important means for researchers to gain the critical information of the papers and their quality relates closely to acceptation and retrieval.In this study,30 abstracts from papers in Information Science are randomly sampled for an in-depth analysis of tense from the perspective of communicative function.The results of the analysis reveal various problems with writing or translating abstracts.And the proper tense usages in abstract writing are suggested,which help researchers improve their abstract writing skills,make the abstract writing meet the requirements of the international tendency,and therefore help enlarge the quoting rate of the papers in Information Science to broaden its international influence.
