In processing, recognition, visualization and computer graphics of 3D images, such as LSCM, CT and MRI images, 3D object construction is essential. The existing methods for 3D object construction are based on connectivity analogized from 2D object construction. Hence, the construction is slow. For this reason, the authors propose a new faster method for volume construction of 3D objects. In the method, the 2D object slices in each plane of a 3D image are first constructed by region labeling using edge following and horizontal scanning. Then the volumes of the 3D objects in the 3D image are constructed by slice merging using pseudo OR operation and link table. In this paper, the edge following and horizontal scanning are first presented. Then the pseudo OR operation and link table are described. An example of the experimental results by the method is given at the end.
