Preprocess of Bayer pattern image based on FPGA+DSP

Bowen An · Electronic Design Engineering · 2010

This paper proposed an image preprocessing system for Bayer pattern from CMOS image sensor.Compared to traditional DSP image processing system, this system uses the XC3S1500 Spartan-3 series and TMS320DM642 DSP to achieve image capture, image pre-processing and other functions. The image information is transmitted to the host computer by CY7C68013 which is supported USB2.0.In the FPGA,the Bayer format image signal captured from COMS sensor is converted to RGB format data by way of bilinear interpolation, and is converted to Y luiminance signal.Experimental results show that the system can handle up to 500 million pixels of resolution Bayer image, and eventually to 20Mb/s of bandwidth to transmit the brightness signal to the host computer, shorten the development cycle and improve the real-time image processing.
