Application of MELP speech algorithm in digital private mobile radio

How to find a vocoder which could fit modulation rate of digital radio was now a urgent problem.The mixed excitation linear predictor(MELP) algorithm with characteristics of low coding rate and highquality voice provided the answer to this issue.MELP speech coding algorithm improved traditional twosource excitation LPC vocoder.This paper analyzed the key technologies.Compared with other commonly used vocoder in communication systems,the paper analyzed its advantage and made a detailed demonstration on possibility of applying MELP to digital radio platform.Experiement results showed that MELP speech algorithm had a wide application prospect in digital private mobile radio(DPMR).It was made new discovery to the development of DPMR.
