An Analysis of Digital Detail Enhancement (DDE) Technology Developed by FLIR

In our opinion,the powerful capability of using DDE to display image with different temperature detail in 256 gray levels originates from reasonable mapping 14 bits thermal image to 8 bits by compressing of global high dynamic range and enhancing of local narrow dynamic range,resulting in perfect perception both of global scene and details,after analyzing DDE technical note.Using it as direction,we perform an experiment upon mapping 14bits thermal image to 8bits.Comparing with traditional AGC method,our experiment exhibit good dynamic compression and detail enhancement.
