Stochastic Modeling of File Pollution in P2P System

Fang Qun · Journal of Chinese Computer Systems · 2009

P2P(peer to peer) is a prevalent technology for files sharing in current Internet. As a two-edge sword,P2P brings convenience to users for sharing files as well as propagating polluted files. This paper focuses on file pollution in P2P network. Firstly it introduces the motion and method and propagating approach and effects of pollution. Sequentially based on stochastic theory,a file pollution model is put forward. After discussing the impact of peers' dynamic behaviors, this paper draws a conclusion that false detecting rate and sharable rate have significantly effect on file pollution level and network workload, and reputation system can partly restrain file pollution in P2P. The result of simulating indicates that our random model is effective for explaining file pollution of realistic P2P system.
